Sue Wood reports that the Westwell Diamond Jubilee Flower Festival in St Mary’s Church, over 2nd – 4th June, was “great success”. Sue goes on to say:
“Approximately 800 visitors toured the displays, which marked significant events of HM the Queen’s reign; including Treetops, the Windsor Castle fire, the ascent of Everest in June 1952, the Millennium celebrations and the Coronation. A more detailed report and pictures of the displays will are on the parish website: http://www.westwellpc.kentparishes.gov.uk and photos are on the G7 website: http://g7benefice.org/2012/westwells-glorious-flower-festivalHuge thanks are due to all who sponsored the event, which covered the costs of the flowers and other materials; the talented team of flower arrangers who realised the arrangements; the organising committee; everyone who baked cakes for sale, and all who came along to support the Festival. Thanks to donations from visitors and sale of refreshments over £2000 was raised – this will go to the St Mary Restoration project. On Sunday 3rd June, as part of the Festival, the Thorne Trio played at a Concert in the garden of Swinford Cottage. Thanks must go to Carolyn and Michael Thorneloe for organising and hosting the event, the Thorne Trio themselves who so generously gave of their services and to all who supported the Concert. A fabulous evening with a varied programme of lovely music raised over £1000 for the Church Restoration fund. This means that over £3000 was raised for the Church Restoration project over the Jubilee weekend – thank you to everyone!”
Congratulations to you Sue and everyone involved on what you have achieved.
