Sea Sunday: Sunny, Bracing then Sunny

Sea Sunday at Tankerton

Sea Sunday at Tankerton

The weather at this year’s Re:fresh Sea Sunday (8th July) at Tankerton was exciting: starting off sunny, then getting rather bracing with some rain, then eventually getting very sunny all over again. Anyway, none of this dampened the enthusiasm of the gathered throng.

What a Glorious Day

Waiting for the race to start

Waiting for the race to start – photo by D. Spain

What a glorious day, the wind dropped, the sun shone and Saturday 30th June Charing held its Church Fete and flower show. Charing church pulled together like never before with Re:fresh running the hot dog and hamburger stall, Charing Church of England Primary School taking a great part both in the organisation of the fete and on the day, people from the church running stalls and people I have never seen before helping to erect the marquees and take them down. Re:fresh on the beach – Team help with sand-castle building

This year’s Re:fresh Sea Sunday service will be on Sunday 8th July, in support of the Mission to Seafarers and we plan to take another trip to the beach. Kelley and David Playfair are very kindly hosting a BBQ and their beach hut at Tankerton will be our base. This is a lovely day for the whole family, so please do come and join in the fun – we will start about 11am, although the actual service may be after the BBQ lunch (TBC). Continue reading

Easter Celebration

Easter Sunday Re:fresh

Celebrating Easter Sunday - Re:fresh at Charing Church Barn - photo by Martin Higgins

Over 40 of us celebrated our Lord’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday in the barn.  The Re:Fresh service was kicked off with some amazing worship songs, including “He Has Risen” by Noel Richards.  We then got into teams for a quiz.  The “Easter Know it Alls” romped home to a resounding victory and the children were all rewarded with an Easter Egg.  During the service some of the children also created miniature Easter-gardens. We finished off with a very noisy rendition of “I am a new Creation” by Dave Bilborough accompanied by everyone on percussion instruments.

Come and join us every Sunday (except the 5th Sunday in the month when there is one) at 11.00am in the barn next to Charing Church.

Adults and children from Charing’s Re:fresh congregation gathered on Remembrance Sunday to remember those who bravely gave their lives during many conflicts. The children helped make a wreath which was laid at the cross outside St Peter and St Paul church. It was a reflective time for all as worship, prayers and table discussion in the Church Barn was followed by a two minute silence when the wreath was laid.

Fellowship, food and fun

Re:Fresh annual BBQ

Enjoying sunshine and conversation at the Re:Fresh annual BBQ photo: by Mim Oliver

Despite the weather forecast, we had a beautifully sunny day for our Re:fresh annual BBQ on Sunday 18th September. More than 30 of us enjoyed burgers, sausages, salads and delicious puds, sitting in the sunshine outside Charing Church Barn.  The kids played, the adults talked and a good time was had by all.
