Good News from Ashford Foodbank

Good News from Ashford Foodbank

It gives us great pleasure to announce that as of 1st June Ashford Foodbank will be moving to new, permanent premises at 2 Mabledon Avenue, Willesborough, TN24 8BJ. This removes the recent uncertainty, and gives Ashford Foodbank long term stability with which to provide an enhanced service to our clients. Distribution will continue from Cudworth Rd up to and including 31st May. Could voucher holders please note that the issuing of new vouchers will state the new address, and that post-1st June existing vouchers will need to be altered.

We thank Ashford Borough Council and Taylor Riley for the great support given to us during this process, and thank all our other supporters for having sought and prayed for a solution to be found.

Finally, but very importantly, we thank our volunteers and partners for their patience throughout this period. The goodwill given by so many toward the Foodbank has given us all great encouragement for the future, and we look forward to serving our community for many years to come.

Every now and then the Foodbank runs low on certain types of food. After a recent visit it was noted that the following were in short supply:

Breakfast cereal
Sponge puddings
Sauces – pasta, curry etc.
Sugar
Tinned fruit (they have plenty of peaches but little else)
Tinned vegetables including potatoes
Jam
Biscuits
Microwave packet meals (for those with minimum access to conventional cookers/ovens)

All contributions continue to be most welcome.

Thank you for your continued support.

Dawn and Rev Bob

S'mores anyone? Sticky, gooey, sugar-rush awesomeness :D

Dates for your diary!

    21st April: Charing Barn, 6:30 till 8pm

Capture the Flag is back!!! With the lighter evenings now we can venture outside and have a bunch of games around the Barn. But this time it won’t be flags we are capturing. We are going to make African footballs and these will become our nest eggs. The first team to successfully raid the other team’s eggs wins…
New for this term is the 15 minute takeover. It’s the God Spot but with a difference. We are giving you the chance to bring your God-related theme to the 15 minute takeover. Hence the takeover bit. You. Taking over the God Spot. We’ll do it this week to give you an idea of what we want then after that it’s all yours. Mwahahahahaaaa! Hmmm… What are we getting ourselves into…
Don’t forget to bring snackage to share. Om nom :)

G7Teen donate food for Food Bank!

20130319-143223.jpg Sunday 17th March. Passion Sunday. St Patrick’s Day. Or just another fabulous day at G7Teen. But on this day we showed our passion, lived like St Patrick and celebrated our ability to reach out to those in need around us as we had a big drive to collect as much food for the Food Bank as we could. And in doing so we filled an entire tub with food!

Feeling compassion for the Food Bank, who recently had a break-in where much of their stock was stolen, compassion for those they serve and remembering the visit we had from the Trussell Trust a year ago G7Teen used St Patrick’s Day as a theme, dressed in green and brought food to be donated. We then had a fun quiz about Ireland with questions like “where do leprechauns bury their gold?” and “how did St Patrick drive the snakes out of Ireland – in a 4×4, by praying or by beating a drum?” a lot of fun was had. With four out of six teams coming joint first it was a good thing Mim brought 4 packets of sweets as prizes!! Parents came also and the whole evening was rounded off with a game of dodge ball – something rapidly becoming as popular as last year’s Capture the Flag and Ultimate Frisbee. Mind you, with the evenings getting lighter the latter two may indeed become all time favourites once again… Muhahahahaaaaa! Got your nerves of steel…???

On a slightly more serious note tubs for donating food items are located in most G7 churches. A list of what foods are needed (i.e. non perishable items) can be found on Ashford Food Bank’s website

If you are or know a family experiencing a time of financial hardship and in need of food vouchers please direct them to the Bluebells Centre in Hothfield. Statistics have shown that child poverty exists at an alarming percentage even here in our rural, seemingly affluent villages. Rural poverty is often hardest because it is unseen. So let’s make a difference and be there for our invisible sufferers…

How to Access Ashford Food Bank

“How does someone in need avail themselves of what the food bank has to offer?”

A  A voucher holder has been appointed to serve the G7 Benefice. This is someone who will see the family or persons in need in the first instance and assess the need. A voucher may be issued which can be exchanged for food at the food bank. Our voucher holder is Dawn Potter who is the Community Involvement Officer for our area. Dawn can be contacted on 01233 622296 or 07827 870508.

165 Shoeboxes filled!

Is it Carole Morgan’s house or the North Pole? Either way it’s looking decidedly festive…

Congratulations to all those in the Benefice who helped fill shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. You were part of a fantastic effort that means 165 children in Third World and struggling countries will have a Christmas they will never forget!  Continue reading
