Good News from Ashford Foodbank

Good News from Ashford Foodbank

It gives us great pleasure to announce that as of 1st June Ashford Foodbank will be moving to new, permanent premises at 2 Mabledon Avenue, Willesborough, TN24 8BJ. This removes the recent uncertainty, and gives Ashford Foodbank long term stability with which to provide an enhanced service to our clients. Distribution will continue from Cudworth Rd up to and including 31st May. Could voucher holders please note that the issuing of new vouchers will state the new address, and that post-1st June existing vouchers will need to be altered.

We thank Ashford Borough Council and Taylor Riley for the great support given to us during this process, and thank all our other supporters for having sought and prayed for a solution to be found.

Finally, but very importantly, we thank our volunteers and partners for their patience throughout this period. The goodwill given by so many toward the Foodbank has given us all great encouragement for the future, and we look forward to serving our community for many years to come.

Every now and then the Foodbank runs low on certain types of food. After a recent visit it was noted that the following were in short supply:

Breakfast cereal
Sponge puddings
Sauces – pasta, curry etc.
Sugar
Tinned fruit (they have plenty of peaches but little else)
Tinned vegetables including potatoes
Jam
Biscuits
Microwave packet meals (for those with minimum access to conventional cookers/ovens)

All contributions continue to be most welcome.

Thank you for your continued support.

Dear friends,

We have just celebrated EASTER – the Crucifixion and Resurrection. So now we have the time to reflect on these events more and more. To help I draw your attention to the story (parable) Jesus told of the Fig Tree:

“A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and found none. So he said to the gardener, ‘See here! For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why should it be wasting the soil?’ He replied, ‘Sir, let it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and put manure on it. If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.”(Luke 13;6).

Lent Courses for 2013

'Guides not Guards' The Canterbury Diocesan Lent course for 2013Lent is an important time in our Christian calendar, one that helps us prepare for the great events of Easter; and one way to get the most out of this year’s Lent is to join one of our friendly and engaging Lent groups.

We have nine Lent groups offering Lent courses this year. Most of the courses begin in the week commencing 18th February and feature the 2013 Diocesan Lent Course ‘Guides not Guards’ and run for five weeks.

Look on the right-hand side column of our home page in the the “What’s on Next” section, or see our diary on our Churches page to see the full list of Lent courses and other events.

I will be living in the Westwell Vicarage along with my wife, Fiona. When I arrived in the benefice for interview in late November I just knew I was in the right place and had no hesitation in accepting the post when offered. Continue reading

Helping others

God neither sleeps nor slumbers by Sue StarkingsAt the time of writing we have just celebrated Christ the King Sunday. The Kingship of Christ has profound and permanent implications on how we live, how we spend our money and our time, our career choices, our voluntary work, the way we relate to people, and the way we worship.
