Over the last year or so Ashford Foodbank has operated from a central point of collection under the Trussell Trust Model. We have grown rapidly and the area we cover has increased greatly making it difficult in some instances for clients to attend the collection point. A recurring comment has been how difficult it is for clients to travel to this central distribution point.
After much prayer and consideration the Ashford Foodbank directors have decided to move across to The Fairer Shares Model which we feel is better and more locally focused. The food is distributed from local centres such as the Bluebells Centre in Hothfield, and certain churches in Ashford Town Centre, as well as other Sure Start centres. What is good about Fairer Shares is that they are more locally focused and provide such services as debt counselling and management and assistance in obtaining better cooking facilities.
As from the 1st June Ashford Foodbank will become Ashford Family Foodbank. What we anticipate is a greater need of donations with the new Foodbank reaching more and more people.
I will remain as the G7 co-ordinator and your continued support will be vital.
