Hothfield Christmas Tree Festival

Crib and trees in Hothfield

What an amazing sight! St. Margaret’s church came alight on December 6, 7 and 8 for the Christmas Tree Festival. There were 42 trees altogether, 40 inside the church. They were decorated by local people, organisations and businesses, many of them from G7 parishes. All of them were wonderful, but visitors voted for their favourite trees, and those decorated by the Friends of St. Margaret’s and Charing Gardeners’ Society came equal first, with Dulwich Prep School’s not far behind.

On the Friday, we had a humorous and informative talk by Andy McConnell from BBC’s Antiques Road Show, and on Saturday an appropriately christmassy concert by the Dawn Chorus – their third visit to Hothfield, and certainly not their last. Finally, on Sunday evening the Carol Service congregation completely filled the building, with more than 20 people standing at the back.

The event raised about £3,000 for the church fabric; retiling the South Aisle begins in the New Year.
