At the end of the year, Archbishop Rowan will step down from his local, national and international roles as Archbishop of Canterbury to take up his new post as Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge.

The Diocese of Canterbury will have an opportunity to mark the Archbishop’s ten years of ministry at a special service in Canterbury Cathedral on Sunday 18 November at 3.15pm. At Archbishop Rowan’s request, the Diocesan farewell service will be in the context of Evensong in the Nave, followed by a short presentation.

So that as many people as possible can attend, the service will not be ticketed and entry will be on a first come, first seated basis. Tea, coffee and cakes will be offered in the Chapter House and Cloisters afterwards for all those who can stay. To help us organise the service, will those people coming from the G7 Benefice please email Rev. Sheila Cox at: sheilacox@g7benefice.org as soon as possible if you are planning to attend.

We regret that parking is not available in the Cathedral precincts.

Gifts

Catching Lives charityArchbishop Rowan and Jane would prefer that the Diocese do not buy any gift for them. Parishes or individuals, who wish to, may instead make donations to ‘Catching Lives’, a local homeless charity of which Archbishop Rowan is patron. Catching Lives are going through a particularly tough time in the current economic climate and so our donations can make a real difference and will help the charity care for homeless and vulnerable people in East Kent.

Donations can be made:

  • Online donations direct to the charity (with a Gift Aid facility for individual gifts where appropriate) via:www.catchinglives.org/features/archbishops-appeal
  • By cheque (please write ‘Archbishop’s Appeal’ on the back) and sent to: Catching Lives, 13 Station Road East, Canterbury, CT1 2RB.
  • Gift Aid envelopes are available for churches wishing to make a collection for ‘Catching Lives’, please email Marilyn Haddock:mhaddock@diocant.org stating how many you require. Posters are also available.
  • Or by cheque to the Diocese (made payable to Canterbury DBF and write ‘Archbishop’s Appeal’ on the back) and send to: Diocesan House, Lady Wootton’s Green, Canterbury CT1 1NQ.
  • The charity will keep a track of donations so that we can inform Archbishop Rowan of the amount raised in the Diocese.
